General malaise...

It’s been over a week since I updated, so I wanted to catch up a little on my blogging. Things are going ok here, but I am really ready for everything to be settled and for us to find a rental house or apartment or wherever we’re going to move, get our stuff down here and start our lives. I’m so tired of feeling like I am stuck in limbo. Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate that my parents are letting me stay at their house, but I’ve been there for two weeks now and I’m just ready to have my own place, with my own stuff, my own cats and my own girlfriend (whom I miss terribly). I’m heading up to Indy this weekend to see her and a few friends of mine, and that’ll be great, but I’m just ready for this time to be over and the new life to begin. I feel like I’m in some sort of weird purgatory.

The job is going well, I’m working a lot on takeoffs and other sort of “busy work” still, but I’m glad to be able to help these guys out. I’ve learned my way around the building (mostly) and am getting comfortable in the department. Everybody likes me so far. I haven’t offered any information about my personal life – to tell you the truth I’m a little wary of these guys finding out that I am dating a girl (we ARE in the South, after all). But I don’t think that really matters at the moment.

I still haven’t seen the new Harry Potter movie – Erin and I promised each other that we would wait to see it until we could see it together, so I’m going to go see it this weekend. I did, however, take myself to a movie on Friday night. I went to see 1408, it was pretty good. Creepy, mostly. I tried to vacate the house as much as possible this weekend, so I ended up driving around a lot and doing a lot of things that kind of felt empty and pointless – going to the mall, a movie, a club. I guess I’m just kind of lonely. But an end to that is in sight, thankfully. It’s a little over a month until Erin comes down here.

I also went to my old game on Saturday night and to be quite frank, it sucked. The only thing that didn’t make the whole evening a total waste of my time was seeing a few of my old friends and going to dinner/breakfast (hey, it was 2 am) after the game was over. I don’t know if I’ve just moved past LARPing in general, or if the storyteller sucked, or if it’s that game in particular, or what. Mostly it was because the characters got split into two different groups – a small group of three and a large group of the rest of the characters. I was in the small group, and the ST went off and ran scenes for the large group for the rest of the night, so I and the other guys in the scene just sat around for three or four hours waiting for something to happen. It was really crappy… oh well.

General malaise this morning. Hopefully it’ll get better soon.

Take care, all…

New jobs and new places: The nature of things

*points at bolded text above* For some reason Blogger won't let me title my post, and that sucks. Ah, well... on with the update!

The new job is going well. My first week went smoothly. I like the department I'm working in - there are a few oddballs, so I'm fitting in okay. I didn't have a computer until Thursday afternoon, so up until that time I was doing stuff like filing and putting things in order for people. They're so behind it's not even funny. These guys are like, WEEKS behind, so I was glad to get at least a little of their stuff out of the way for them. However, filing and such is BORING AS HELL. On Friday I had a little more fun - I got to do a takeoff for Wal-Mart. For those of you that aren't sure of what a takeoff is, it's when a customer sends you a layout for a new building and you get to go through the plans and figure out how many lighting fixtures they will need for the job. Sounds dull, but it was a lot more fun than filing, LOL... actually I found it kind of interesting. I got to figure out how many light fixtures this Wal-Mart in Wisconsin is going to need for their new building. And we supply all kinds of interior lighting - strip lights, exit signs, emergency lights, etc - so it definitely keeps your brain occupied. I made a really good impression on the lady that's training me because I picked up things so quickly. Of course it helps to have lighting experience in that regard... ;-)

The building is absolutely HUGE... they have over 500 employees in this building, and room for more than that. It's so big that it has its own cafeteria. Every day they have a caterer come in with hot lunches, and it's really fancy schmants-pants stuff like stuffed herb chicken, french green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. There's a soda fountain too, just like a real restaurant. It's kind of expensive though, so I stick to my brown bag with PB&J, hee. It's a gorgeous place - all marble and new carpet and lighting and wood and stainless steel - but it's so big that I've gotten lost a couple of times. I'm sure I'll learn my way around quickly, though. I like the people I work with, and my boss. It's SO FRICKING NICE to not work for someone who's constantly riding your ass. They're very laid back here. They actually trust us to DO OUR JOBS and stay out of the way so we can do them. HOORAY!!!

Living at home is kind of weird. It's good, though. I went to the grocery store on Friday and three different total strangers made eye contact and smiled at me... God, I missed that. Hoosiers just don't do it. WEIRDOS!! It's hot as hell down here... the humidity makes it almost unbearable. Thank God I have air conditioning in the truck, ha! Mom and I have been spending a lot of time together, which is nice. Yesterday my sister and I took her to see Pirates 3, which was a lot of fun. Then last night my friend Jo came over and the two of us did shots with my dad until none of us could walk a straight line. It was so great to spend some time with him. He's moving to PA in a few weeks, so I want to see him as much as I can. I think we might get together next weekend too, which will be cool. We'll just have to see how things go.

I've been so busy that I haven't been able to email or blog much lately... Mom's had the kids all this week, so I've been helping her with them. I haven't had a chance to sit down at a computer in a week! I'm getting caught up on correspondence today while I have a chance to actually sit down and do it. Sorry about that, my friends!!! I'll try to make more time for corresponding this week...

That's all for now. I think I'll go jump in the pool!

Take care, all!
